Sunshine Days

The lyrics and music for ‘Sunshine Days’ developed out of Zoey Blake’s subplot in ‘Song Bird’. Verses are written in E minor with the chorus in G major.

Growing up is rarely easy as teens like Zoey come to terms with some of the harsh realities of life. As part of that process, Zoey is sadder but also develops resilience in Knight’s ‘Life Song’ and ‘Song Bird’.

VERSE 1
I long for
Days of innocence.
Times
That I was care free.
When I didn’t know
What I know now.
And lived
in surety.

CHORUS
They were
Sunshine days
Of easy living,
Breezy nights
Warm in camaraderie.
I lived in
Golden moments
Of possibility.

VERSE 2
Since then,
I’ve lived the choices
Others made;
Not had the love I craved.
An outsider,
Different from the crowd,
Wondering
Why.

CHORUS
I long for
Sunshine days
Of easy living,
Breezy nights
Warm in camaraderie.
When I lived
Golden moments
Of hope and surety.

A solo break for the alto sax.

VERSE 3
I know that
Happiness
Must come from within
It’s elusive when linked to things.
It’s hard to throw off the blues
And view life
Through a different lens.

CHORUS
I will reclaim
Sunshine days
Of easy living,
Breezy nights
Warm in camaraderie.
I’ll value
Golden moments
Of hope and surety.
